Putting the Radio back in Radio Userland. I’ve been spending way to much time with Radio Userland this weekend.

Putting the Radio back in Radio Userland. I’ve been spending way to much time with Radio Userland this weekend. Mucho mahalos to Sam Devore for helping with some iTunes scripts. I now can publish a list of my most recently played MP3s to my Weblog. The side benefit is that it can also publish the same list to my Manila site. That part is a highly modified version of a script Lynn Siprelle sent me way back. Life is good. Its not clean or completely automated yet, but the difficult stuff is mostly done so I’m going to bed now.

I want to put the ‘radio’ back in my Radio Userland.

I want to put the ‘radio’ back in my Radio Userland. I’d like to have RU (or Frontier for that matter) query iTunes every minute or so to see what’s playing, a build up a database of the stuff I’m spinning, and maybe publish it. I think I can handle the Usertalk side of this and storing the data in my odb (sufficient prior art there). However, I’m stuck on have RU get the data from iTunes. I imported the aete resource (using Frontier). I’ve gone through Preston Holme’s Object Model docs and can’t figure out how to do this.…

Philosophy My Tuckus

Hey Dave, do the Mets still have a philosophy, or have they just adopted the Yankees’ ‘non-philosophy’ of buying up all the talent in sight? In the past couple of weeks they’ve picked up Mo Vaughn, Roger Cedeno, and Robbie Alomar, and are pursuing Juan Gonzalez. Vaughn says he’s been working out and has proclaimed himself fit. From the looks of this picture the only running he’s been doing is from the limo to the pizza shop front door. Time to beef up the suspension on the team bus. Normally I don’t give much thought to baseball, but enjoy Dave’s…

Two Thumbs Up

I’m no movie critic, but Lord of The Rings: Fellowship of the Ring is easily the best movie I’ve seen this year, or in quite some time. It’s blend of memorable human and digital characters, and the marriage of spectacular real scenery and CG backgrounds is almost seamless. What caught me most were the eyes of some of the characters, even those of seemingly insignificant extras. Three hours have never passed so quickly.

Police warned on plate covers .

Police warned on plate covers. Apparently there are license plate covers that make it difficult for the new traffic cameras to catch violators. “John Pinero, president of Performance Auto Care Center, which sells the majority of the plate covers on Oahu, says the Eliminator does work, though it is ‘not 100 percent.’ Since Pinero began selling the plate covers on Dec. 10, he said several police officers have come in and at times bought ’20 to 30′ covers each.” Hmmm.

Hawai’i GOP lawmakers may move to block traffic cameras. I’m a bit tossed on this issue.

Hawai’i GOP lawmakers may move to block traffic cameras. I’m a bit tossed on this issue. I’m an ex-police officer, and know firsthand how difficult it is to nab violators who only obey traffic laws when they see a patrol car around. On the other hand, it really bothers me that this system is set up to assume guilt before innocence, and without identifying the perpetrator. If your car was speeding or ran a red light you are guilty, and the only way to get out of it is to identify the person who was driving the car (spouse, kid,…

Robert asks “How does one measure speed? Is measured by clock speed? Could it be that one’s perspective of speed is relative?” Of course my comments were based on my perception.

Robert asks “How does one measure speed? Is measured by clock speed? Could it be that one’s perspective of speed is relative?” Of course my comments were based on my perception. The only thing I really have to meaure against is the machines I have. When I switch from OS 9.2 to OS X on the same 733 Mhz G4, bootup and application launches both seem considerably slower to me. Can’t quantify it. Most of what I do is web based, Frontier website management, email, etc. No heavy graphics, page layout or anything. Of course, I should add that I’ve…

Testing some macros… Hmm.

Testing some macros… Hmm. RU does not process Manila macros that are embedded in the RSS feed. I wonder if there is a way to strip them out. I’d rather not have them anyway. (see the NahanaheNet RSS Box for some imageRef macros)

Robert asks “Are you dis-enchanted with your current OS?” Not to me specifically, but in general.

Robert asks “Are you dis-enchanted with your current OS?” Not to me specifically, but in general. I’ve been using Macs since OS 4.something. Not disenchated, but perhaps bored. I’d love to run OS X, except: On my 733Mhz G4 OS X feels like OS 7 did on my Mac Plus. SLOOOOWWW. The Hawaiian keyboard that I created in 1991 and has worked for every OS since them no longer works. OS X does not support user installable keyboards. I did have a nice long phone conference with the International and Text teams last week and they’ve promised me: A Hawaiian…
