Dave pointed to a story on the New York Times website about the fight between Sharman Networks, the creators of Kazaa, and programmers who created Kazaa Lite, which allows users to share files on the Kazaa network without seeing the ads that Sharman Networks inserts to generate income. I checked out the Kazaa Lite websites at http://www.kazaalite.tk/ and http://www.kazaalite.com/, and both have popup ads of their own! Too funny.

Let me see if I get this straight. Sharman Networks see no irony in the fact that their software allows people to share music files without paying for them, but wants to be paid for for each downloaded file. They’re indignant that someone created a program that disables their mechanism for getting paid. And the people that created that program that disables their ads are using the same type of advertising mechanism to generate income for themselves.

Irony is like an onion. Peel away the layers and you find more irony. And maybe some hypocrisy. That is a metaphor, right?
