Time to break out the broom, gang. The Nets took their best shot, and still came up short against the Lakers. I’ll be passing through New Jersey in 8 days on my way to Ireland. If the outcome wasn’t so clear from the outset, it would probably be a pretty sad place. But, hey, it’s New Jersey. Nobody expected them to get this far, anyway.

I’m watching game 3 of the NBA Finals. Good game, but am I ever fed up with those Nike retro-70’s ABA funk commercials. They’re cute the first time, but get very boring with each subsequent viewing. Lose ’em, Nike.

Hawaiian Lesson For The Day Can you say “humuhumunukunukuapua’a”? My sister and her husband live in <brrrr> Minnesota, and he just got her one for her birthday. Actually this doesn’t look like the normal humu from Hawai’i (which has a lot of brown and grows much bigger than this), but it is definitely in the same family. Yes, it is alive and happily swimming around in a salt-water aquarium. I suggested she name it “Sashimi”; she opted for “Gary.” Go figure.

Colonel suspended for bad-mouthing Bush. Ah, the military. When they want your opinion they’ll give it to you. This colonel works/worked at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey. I just visited CSU-Monterey Bay for a language conference and met a number of people who worked at DLI. I wonder if we met; the name doesn’t sound familiar.

My daughter Malia and I went to the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards (Hawai’i’s equivalent of the Grammys) last week, and had a blast. Malia is onstage (black dress and glasses) with some of Hawai’i finest singing “Hawai’i Aloha” at the closing of the awards. Others in the picture include Palani Vaughn, Sean Na’auao, Skylark Rosetti, Frank Kawaikapuokalani Hewett, Darlene Ahuna, and Larry Kimura.

It’s great to see Chuck Shotton weblogging and using RU to do it. I was an early user of Chuck’s MacHTTP, which later evolved into WebStar. Chuck’s been raising a bit of a stink about county employees polluting a stream in his town. Way to go, Chuck, and welcome to my blogroll.

I checked my referer log and found a few referals from Yahoo, where “NetFlix” was the search term. Curious. I did a search for NetFlix myself, and found that my short NetFlix piece is on the third page of returns. Not bad for a humble little weblog.

Meg serves up a story of gastronomical delight. I felt like I was sitting there watching the entire meal unfold. Sorry about your Celtics, Meg. It would have been nice to see the Lakers beat them for yet another championship. Maybe next year.

My worse nightmare failed to materialize as the Lakers knocked off the Kings in Game 7 of the western conference finals. I’ll be the first to admit that the Lakers played terribly and the Kings spectacularly. Whenever the Lakers got a bit of a lead, the Kings came back and played like it was the last play of the game.
