Since Dave pointed to the site and it’s getting some traffic today… Anyone out there been to Ireland, and know of any “must-see” or “must-do” things in Dublin or Co. Sligo? We’ll be there in about 5 weeks, so any suggestions are appreciated.

Dave pointed to a story on the New York Times website about the fight between Sharman Networks, the creators of Kazaa, and programmers who created Kazaa Lite, which allows users to share files on the Kazaa network without seeing the ads that Sharman Networks inserts to generate income. I checked out the Kazaa Lite websites at http://www.kazaalite.tk/ and http://www.kazaalite.com/, and both have popup ads of their own! Too funny. Let me see if I get this straight. Sharman Networks see no irony in the fact that their software allows people to share music files without paying for them, but wants…

I tried to get an AIM (AOL Instant Messaging) account today using my name (keoladonaghy) as a screen name. Much to my surprise I found that that screen name had already been registered by someone. I find it difficult to believe that there is another Keola Donaghy out there, so if you have ever gotten Instant Messages from someone using my name, let me know. It wasn’t me.

I’ve been watching the NBA for thirty years, and a Lakers fan since they got Kareem in the late 70s. If I was coaching an NBA team and could pick any player who ever lived to take a game winning (or losing) shot, it wouldn’t be Jerry West, Kareem, Michael, Magic or Larry. It would be Robert Horry. The look on his face when he takes the kinds of shots like the one that sent the Trailblazers home whimpering again would make you think he could care less if he made or missed them. No fear, no determined look, just…

Dave says “What email has become. 2/3 spam. 1/5 viruses. A bunch of ad hominems, sprinkled with a few interesting messages.” I couldn’t agree more. I checked my email after getting out of the hospital and found that 85% of it was spam or viruses. Email has already gotten to be more of an annoyance than a benefit. What the hell can you do?
Ouch
Getting a gall bladder taken out doesn’t sound like a big deal (at least I never thought of it in such terms), but I have a greater appreciation for that little organ now. I had mine taken out on Friday and will be out of commission for at least another week.

Are Gates and Ballmer lying? Dave runs an interesting survey on the Scripting News webpage. What does it tell us? Well, it tells us there are at least six Kool Aid-drinking MicroSofties who read Scripting News. This number may rise as more of them discover the joys of Scripting News.

I got a call from my wife this afternoon at work; she was very distressed. She had stopped off at Walmart on the way home, and while she was inside someone stole a package out of her truck that my parents had sent us. As today was our anniversary we both assumed the worst, and that someone had made off with our anniversary present. She called my mother when she got home, and found out that the package contained a pair of pants that I had left at their home a few weeks ago on a one night layover on…

“Quote Me!” macro? I posted this idea on the RU discussion group. When you see a weblog post that you want to quote, you can simply click on the “quote me!” link after the post, and it takes you to your own RU desktop, with the text of that story (links, graphic links and all), placed in the text area for you to edit and comment on before posting to your own weblog. Just one more way to make blogging a bit easier, perhaps? Greg is not too fond of the idea, and offers an alternative. Hmm. Yes it is…
