I was a good boy and kept my mouth (and keyboard) shut about not being the target of comment spam. I guess my humble, low-traffic blog wasn’t worth the effort. But now I’m getting spam in my trackbacks, mostly for online gambling. Thanks to Userland for the ability to quickly delete them. If it gets to be a pain in the butt I’ll simply disable trackback.
Happy Birthday Macintosh!
I didn’t discover the joys of Macintosh until it was about 2 or 3 years old, and met Scott about the same time. He was, and still is, quite the Mac evangelist. I still have my first Mac Plus functioning as a bookend in my home office.
Hawaiian language support in OS X.
This page documents what exactly ‘Hawaiian Language Support’ means in Mac OS X, with screen shots. We’d love to have all of this in Windows as well. This is the original announcement from August, 24, 2002, a date burned into my memory forever. Some of the information in it is outdated – Office 2004 for Macintosh applications now support Unicode, and therefore support Hawaiian.
Still No Joy In Hawaiian With Windows.
Several months ago a few people pointed me to this Windows Keyboard Layout Creator. I’ve finally gotten around to looking at it, and unfortunately I don’t know if we can use it. In this app you have to specify the language that the keyboard will be used with. As Hawaiian is not listed as a supported language in Windows, it appears I would have to specify another language (like English) to display. What is it going to take to get MS to recognize our language? I think we’ll start an online petition drive and see if we can get enough…
I agree with Scott’s rants on the iPod – call it iPod envy.
Then why am I still sans-iPod? As great as I agree they are, and while the manufacturing costs probably justify the price, I just can’t see myself laying out the kind of money that they are asking for the hard drive-based units. Changing priorities as I get older, I guess. My personal priorities, those outside of family and work, are health and Ph.d. Most discretionary funds are being reserved for the possibility of #2 abroad. I’ll probably get our daughter an iPod shuffle for her birthday in April (and hope that she never sees this post), and may eventually get…
I’m sorry, but I just can’t bring myself to feel sorry for this guy.
You don’t tug on Superman’s cape, you don’t spit into the wind, you don’t pull the mask of the Lone Ranger, and you don’t mess with Apple’s legal dept. I don’t see this being about freedom of the press, but about money. The guy has a website that advertises, and he’s trying to drive traffic to it. He posts information that was obtained by someone who was violating a legal agreement that they signed, and he doesn’t think that he should have to reveal who it was? The fact that the EFF is not jumping in and offering to help…
Ask and you shall receive.
Scott delivers his podcast on the new products from Apple. Scott, my birthday isn’t until June, but you can send the iPod Shuffle anytime
Blogosphere buzzing over Apple new product announcements.
I was tuned into a couple of people who were blogging Steve Job’s keynote at Macworld. There is a lot to be excited about – the iPod Shuffle, Mac Mini, and the improvements in iLife ’05. I’m most interested in iWork, the AppleWorks replacement. AppleWorks was getting long in the tooth, and was not even a Coca app – shameful for an Apple product in this day and age. While it was not streamed live, the keynote is now available for viewing. I heard that Jobs did crash an application during the demo, but was quickly able to force-quit and…
Hawaiian Music Giant Keali’i Reichel Allows Use Of His Music In Podcast.
Former Apple marketing wiz and current Maui Macintosh evangelist Scott Waters has included Keali’i Reichel‘s breakout recording Kawaipunahele in his most recent podcast, and has received emails from other Hawai’i artists who are willing to allow the inclusion of their music in future podcasts. Reichel has been one of the best selling recording artists and concert draws for the past decade, and is one of the finalists for the inaugural Hawaiian Grammy, which will be awarded this February. Clarification I want to make sure that it is clear that Keali’i has allowed Scott to use his music in his MacHelpMaui…
I set up a blog on the MSN Spaces system, and so far so good.
It seems to handle the Unicode characters necessary for Hawaiian with no problem. If I can get them to allow us to do a Hawaiian localization of the user interface it just might work for us.
